Citroën introduces its We Care extended warranty
Citroën has introduced a service-activated warranty for its newer vehicles, offering customers additional peace of mind.
Known as We Care, the scheme provides up to five years of extra warranty cover following the standard three-year manufacturer warranty. This means eligible vehicles could benefit from up to eight years of total warranty protection.
Here’s everything you need to know about Citroën We Care, including how it works, what’s covered and which vehicles are eligible.
Available on Citroën passenger cars registered from 1 June 2025 onwards.
Vehicles registered before this date retain their original three-year manufacturer warranty.
Provides up to eight years or 100,000 miles of total cover.
Includes the standard three-year manufacturer warranty, followed by up to five years of service-activated cover.
Each additional year of cover is activated when the vehicle completes its annual service.
Servicing must be carried out at a Citroën-authorised service centre.
Extended cover focuses on key engine, gearbox, mechanical and electric drive components.
High-voltage batteries in electric vehicles have a separate warranty.
Exclusions apply, including damage caused by accidents, misuse or neglect.
The warranty automatically transfers to the next owner when the vehicle is sold.
Citroën We Care offers up to eight years or 100,000 miles of warranty cover, whichever comes first.
The first three years fall under the standard manufacturer warranty. During the first two years, there is no mileage limit, while the third year is subject to a limit of 60,000 miles.
After the initial three-year warranty expires, owners can access up to five additional years of service-activated cover by servicing their vehicle at a Citroën-authorised repairer.
Every qualifying annual service activates a further 12 months of cover, which runs until the next service is due. Completing each subsequent service activates another year, subject to the scheme's terms and conditions.
The extended warranty period is subject to a total mileage limit of 100,000 miles. All age limits are calculated from the vehicle's original registration date, which can be checked using the DVLA vehicle information checker.
The standard three-year Citroën manufacturer warranty provides relatively broad protection, covering most components that aren't subject to normal wear and tear.
The additional five-year service-activated period is more specific. For petrol and other engine-powered vehicles, cover focuses on the engine, gearbox and transmission. For electric vehicles, it applies to eligible mechanical, electrical and electronic components.
In simple terms, the extended portion of We Care is designed to protect key components responsible for powering and driving your vehicle, rather than every part of the car.
For a full breakdown of the covered components and applicable conditions, read the official Citroën We Care terms and conditions.
As with most vehicle warranties, normal wear-and-tear items are excluded from We Care. These include:
Filters
Brake pads, discs and linings
Welds
Cables
Wheels and rims
Tyres
Belts
Fluids
The scheme also follows standard warranty exclusions, meaning claims are generally intended for failures resulting from defects in materials, manufacturing or assembly. Damage caused by external factors, misuse or neglect is not covered.
To maintain your warranty, your vehicle must be serviced in line with Citroën's recommendations, generally every 12 months or 12,500 miles. The scheme allows a limited tolerance for missed service dates, but repeatedly exceeding the permitted intervals could affect the validity of a claim.
Unauthorised modifications can also invalidate warranty cover, as Citroën cannot guarantee the quality or suitability of third-party components. Tampering with the vehicle's digital systems, particularly the mileage recording, is also excluded. Official Citroën accessories fitted by a dealership are not subject to this particular modification exclusion.
Vehicles used for certain commercial or specialist purposes are also excluded. These include taxis, rental cars, driving school vehicles, delivery vehicles and vehicles used by the police, ambulance or military services. Racing, competitive driving and overloading the vehicle can also invalidate cover.
Always refer to the official We Care terms and conditions for the complete list of exclusions and requirements.
Citroën's electric vehicles use high-voltage battery packs to store the energy needed to power the car. These batteries are covered by a separate warranty rather than the We Care service-activated package.
Eligible Citroën electric vehicles benefit from high-voltage battery coverage for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
This warranty guarantees that the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity throughout the coverage period. If its capacity drops below this threshold while the warranty is active, Citroën will cover the necessary repairs in accordance with the warranty terms.
Electric vehicle batteries are generally designed to last for many years, and their capacity gradually reduces over time. Looking after your battery and following the manufacturer's charging recommendations can help support its long-term performance.
For everyday driving, charging to around 80% may be suitable for many EVs, while charging to 100% can be useful when you need the vehicle's full range. Always follow the guidance provided for your particular model.
Yes. Citroën We Care automatically transfers to the next owner when an eligible vehicle is sold.
This means the remaining warranty benefits can continue with the car, provided the scheme's requirements have been met. The vehicle must have been serviced correctly and must not have been subject to modifications, misuse or neglect that would invalidate the cover.
This can be an added benefit for customers considering a nearly new Citroën, as eligible vehicles may still have access to the additional service-activated warranty.
The amount of cover remaining will depend on the vehicle's registration date, mileage and service history.
All Citroën passenger cars registered from 1 June 2025 onwards are eligible for the We Care scheme, subject to its terms and conditions.
Vehicles registered before this date retain the remainder of their original three-year manufacturer warranty rather than qualifying for the new scheme.
Citroën's commercial vehicles are excluded, as is the Ami electric quadricycle.
If you're considering a new or nearly new Citroën, it's worth checking the vehicle's registration date and service history to establish what warranty protection is available.
Does Citroën We Care cost extra?
The scheme provides additional cover activated through qualifying annual servicing at a Citroën-authorised service centre. Check the current scheme terms for the conditions that apply to your vehicle.
Can I get We Care if I service my car elsewhere?
The service-activated cover requires servicing at a Citroën-authorised service centre. Using an independent garage may therefore affect your eligibility for the additional cover.
Does We Care cover electric vehicle batteries?
No. High-voltage batteries have a separate warranty, which for eligible vehicles lasts up to eight years or 100,000 miles.
Does the warranty transfer if I sell my Citroën?
Yes. The cover automatically transfers to the new owner, provided the vehicle continues to meet the scheme's requirements.
Can every Citroën receive We Care?
No. The scheme applies to eligible passenger vehicles registered from 1 June 2025 onwards. Commercial vehicles and the Ami are excluded.
Is Citroën We Care the same as a full eight-year manufacturer warranty?
Not exactly. The first three years are covered by the standard manufacturer warranty, while the additional five years are activated through qualifying annual servicing and have more limited component coverage.
